Cross Keys Homes begins demolition of garage site

DEMOLITION work will begin shortly on a city garage site as part of a £1.7m cash injection by landlord Cross Keys Homes to provide 33 new homes.

The housing association’s developers, FE Peacock Ltd, with sub-contractor PJ Towey Construction, will begin developing the old garage buildings at Willow Avenue to make way for nine much needed two bedroom bungalows.

Cross Keys Homes is providing the new homes in conjunction with its development partner Circle Anglia. This disused garage site is one of nine in Dogsthorpe and Eye which will provide a total of 33 two and three bedroom affordable rented properties.

Resident, Geoffrey Buckingham, of Almond Road, said: “I am very pleased that at long last the garages that have blighted our area are being demolished and new bungalows are being built.”

Cross Keys Homes’ development manager, Ian Richardson, said: “We are delighted to be providing these new homes in Dogsthorpe and are very pleased that two of these bungalows will be specially adapted for wheelchair users.”

Cross Keys Homes’ chief executive, Mick Leggett, added: “Our aim is to create great places for people to live and improve the local neighbourhood. The bungalows are much needed and they will make a real positive difference to the overall environment and the community.”
