Cross Keys shortlisted for award

June 30, 2010

Peterborough’s largest landlord, Cross Keys Homes, has been shortlisted in the corporate sustainability category of The Sustainable Housing Awards 2010, organised by Inside Housing magazine and its sister publication Sustainable Housing.

This awards scheme focuses on the best “green” social housing projects in the UK, and the organisations responsible for them. The trophies will be presented at a suitably “eco” awards ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in London’s Park Lane on Friday, October 22.

Ted Stevens, Inside Housing’s events director, and the organiser of the awards said: “We’ve had a terrific response, with hundreds of entries and Cross Keys Homes has done brilliantly to get shortlisted from such a huge field. Britain is leading the way on sustainable housing and innovative building techniques so we’re delighted we’re able to organise a ceremony to reward organisations that are delivering best practice”.

Cross Keys Homes, director of operations and chair of its environmental sustainability group, Claire Higgins, added: “We are truly delighted to have been shortlisted for this award. Over the last two years we have really worked hard to deliver sustainable solutions across all areas of the business from our staff travel arrangements through to the way we have made our head office more environmentally friendly, to working closely with our tenants to raise awareness of environmental issues and introduce energy saving measures into their homes.

“We have also launched our green manifesto which received endorsement from Peterborough’s Environment Capital board and we use this to set out our environmental credentials to everyone we work with and provide services for”.

Last year nearly 500 people attended the event, which was hosted by channel 4’s news anchorman Jon Snow. This year’s event is expected to be hosted by comedian, actor and keen climate change campaigner Marcus Brigstocke.

The sponsors of the awards include Mitie, United House, Profile 22, H + H Celcon, Sustainable Homes, The Resourcing Group, NHBC, Willmott Dixon Group and Breyer Group.
